As highlighted by EIN Presswire in the article “Businesses Navigate New E-Verify Compliance Laws with Help from PEO Services,” businesses across the U.S. are facing increasing pressure to comply with new state-level E-Verify mandates. These expanding employment eligibility verification laws are prompting many companies—especially small to mid-sized employers—to turn to Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) for critical HR and compliance support.
E-Verify is a federal web-based system that checks a new hire’s employment eligibility against government databases using data from the I-9 form. While federally optional for many businesses, states such as Florida, Arizona, Iowa, and West Virginia are leading a wave of legislation that makes participation mandatory for certain employers. For example, Florida Senate Bill 1718, effective July 1, 2023, requires private employers with 25 or more workers to use E-Verify for all new hires.
